Director Yann Demange Departs ‘Blade’ Reboot

The ‘Lovecraft Country’ director parts ways with the Marvel Studios film about the half-human, half-vampire Eric Brooks, who seeks revenge for the death of his mother; the movies is still supposedly slicing into theaters November 7, 2025.

Yann Demange (Lovecraft Country, White Boy Rick) who was set to direct the upcoming Blade reboot following original director Bassam Tariq’s exit, has stepped down from the wayward project, according to Variety. From losing its director, to extensive script re-writes, and delays causing multiple other film pushbacks, the production has taken quite the wild ride.

Eric Pearson pens the script, following previous writers Michael Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Beau DeMayo and Nic Pizzolatto.

The original story of Blade follows half-human, half-vampire Eric Brooks, who seeks revenge for the death of his mother at the hands (or fangs) of vampires. Mahershala Ali takes over the role of the eponymous vampire slayer Brooks first portrayed by Wesley Snipes in the original 1998 film of the same name, as well as Blade II (2002) and Blade: Trinity (2004).

Mahershala Ali stars in the eponymous role alongside Mia Goth and Delroy Lindo in undisclosed roles.

While production is still underway, we do know VFX will be created by Clear Angle Studios, Digital Domain, Industrial Light & Magic, and Sony Pictures Imageworks, with Marten Larsson acting as production visual effects supervisor.

Catch Blade when it slices into theaters November 7, 2025, barring further delays.
