New DCU “Superman: Legacy’ Gets its Clark Kent and Lois Lane

David Corenswet will portray the swoon-worthy alien from Krypton, while Rachel Brosnahan will play his journalist love interest and co-lead in the upcoming new DCU origin story written and directed by James Gunn.

It’s all coming together. James Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy flick, which will introduce the cannon Superman to the new DCU, has found its Clark Kent and Lois Lane. David Corenswet (Hollywood, The Politician) will portray the swoon-worthy alien from Krypton, while Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Courier) will play his journalist love interest.

The live-action feature film reboot of the famed franchise serves as an origin story following a younger version of the Man of Steel. Gunn, who penned the script, also directs. DC Studios Co-CEO Peter Safran produces.

Legacy is the first film from Gunn and Safran’s new Gods and Monsters chapter of the DCU; it focuses on Clark Kent as he struggles to balance his day job as an amateur journalist and his secret life as a superhero.

Superman: Legacy is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe,” said Gunn when the new slate was revealed. “Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world. I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”

Superman: Legacy is slated to fly into theaters July 11, 2025.
