Sublime with Rome Drops ‘Tangerine Skies’ Music Video

For the ska alt rock group’s just-dropped EP, Intern Creatives ‘sublimely’ captures playful ‘90s surf vibes and ‘infectious grooves’ with vivid, colorful illustrations.

The California ska alternative rock group Sublime with Rome has dropped their new EP, Tangerine Skies and a colorful animated music video for the title track. Formed in 2010 by Rome Ramirez, Eric Wilson, and Bud Gaugh, the group continues making waves, having recently collaborated with Slightly Stoopid on “Cool & Collected,” the first new release from both groups in several years.

“We're thrilled to release our newest EP, Tangerine Skies,” shared the band. “This collection of songs has been years in the making - originating as demos during the pandemic, we took this music out to Texas to fully realize it as an album.”

The album showcases the group’s “multifaceted songwriting and infectious grooves” that their fans know and love. It’s now available on popular music platforms.

Sublime with Rome added, “From sun-soaked summer jams to raw reflections on pain and confusion, these 4 tracks capture the full spectrum of our sound. We've poured our hearts into this music, and we hope listeners cherish these songs as much as we do!”

The animated music video adds another dimension to the album's release. The video, created by Intern Creatives led by designer/producer Sam Murphy and illustrator Bianca Bosso, features the EP’s title track, and uses bright, vivid images to capture the music’s vibe.

Challenged with tapping into the band’s inspiration, the Intern Creatives team had to “understand exactly what they [Sublime with Rome] wanted and then find a way to express that in our own creative style.”

Fortunately, the creatives aligned visually with the group, making the process smooth. Inspired by ‘90s surf wear, the team set out to capture the bright, illustrated, playful vibe all over surf t-shirts at the time – with a special nod to the Australian brand Mambo.

After completing the draft illustration by hand, the animation was created digitally frame by frame on ProCreate, then transferred to After Effects, where the pieces came together with necessary effects added. The process took about a month, from initial concept design to completion.
