Annecy Sets €26 million ‘Cité’ Animation Hub Expansion for 2025 Launch

To be located in the historic Haras d’Annecy, the new Cité internationale du cinéma d’animation d’Annecy will promote animation to a wide audience, boasting a screening room, artist’s residence, training facilities, and exhibition space for temporary and permanent collections.

CITIA has announced the Cité internationale du cinéma d’animation d’Annecy, its expansive new cultural and entertainment hub dedicated to the art of animation, is on track to open in the second half of 2025, furthering the organization’s threefold mission to promote animation to a wide audience, develop a local economic center for creative industries, and support training and education in moving images.

According to the organization, for over 50 years, CITIA has organized the Annecy Animation Festival and Mifa, and the 2025 launch of Cité internationale du cinéma d’animation will make diverse forms of expression and creative industries accessible to all audiences throughout the year. It will be a place to learn, create, and experiment while discovering the cinematic art of animation.

The forthcoming Cité internationale du cinéma d’animation now enters a new phase of construction, to be centered at the heart of the historic Haras d’Annecy. The project is backed by the City of Annecy, the Département de la Haute-Savoie, the Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, and the State. The budget has been set at €26 million for the Cité expansion, €42 million for the full Haras transformation.

The Cité will be home to:

  • Screening room
  • Artists’ residency
  • Areas for training courses and cultural action
  • Temporary exhibition space
  • Permanent exhibition to showcase the Musée-Château d’Annecy’s animation film collections
  • Bookstore and gift shop
