Production Begins on HBO’s ‘GoT’ Prequel ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’

The show, previously referred to as ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ and based on George R. R. Martin’s novella ‘The Hedge Knight,’ is set a century before ‘Game of Thrones,’ and follows the exploits of two unlikely heroes.

Max has announced the HBO Original A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms series, based on George R. R. Martin’s novella “The Hedge Knight,” has kicked off production in Belfast, Ireland. In addition, Sarah Adina Smith (Lessons in Chemistry, Hanna, Buster’s Mal Heart) is onboard to direct three of the six episodes, joining director and executive producer Owen Harris.

The project, previously referred to as Tales of Dunk and Egg, chronicles a sequence of novellas set a century before the events of Game of Thrones. The series follows two unlikely heroes who wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. In an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and images of the last dragon have not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.

New cast members Finn Bennett (Aerion Targaryen); Bertie Carvel (Baelor Targaryen); Tanzyn Crawford (Tanselle); Daniel Ings (Ser Lyonel Barotheon); and Sam Spruell (Maekar Targaryen) join previously announce cast members Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell.

Written and executive produced Martin and Ira Parker, the show is executive produced by Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw.

A release date was not announced.
