The Philippine government has presented honors to Filipino animation legends, reports AllHeadlineNews.com. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo presented the Presidential Medals of Merit to the "Legends of Philippine Komiks (Animation)" at a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace.
The animators included:
* Manuel Rodriguez, Jr. -- the "Father of Print Making" in the Philippines.
* Don Emilio Yap -- the publisher of LIWAYWAY, a literary-entertainment magazine.
* Antonio Velasquez (posthumous) -- "father of Filipino animation" and creator of the comic series MGA KABALBALAN NI KENKOY (THE ADVENTURES OF KENKOY).
* Francisco Coching (posthumous) -- creator of PEDRO PENDUKO and CONDENADO.
* Mars Ravelo (posthumous) -- creator of the superheroes Darna, Dyesebel and Captain Barbell.
* Larry Alcala (posthumous) -- creator of ASIONG AKSAYA and KALABOG EN BOSYO.
* Carlo Caparas -- creator of ANG PANDAY.
