Paramount Delays ‘Aang: The Last Airbender’ Animated Feature

Serving as the first of three planned standalone films, the project from Nickelodeon Animation, Paramount Animation, Avatar Studios and Flying Bark Productions will now premiere January 20, 2026.

Fans will have to wait a little longer to see the Gaang back together. Paramount has delayed the premiere of Aang: The Last Airbender from October 10, 2025 to January 20, 2026, according to Variety, although the reason is not yet known. The anticipated animated feature, which will bridge the gap between the original Avatar series and the spinoff Legend of Korra, is set to star Dave Bautista as the main villain.

Also lending their voice talents to the film are Eric Nam, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, and Roman Zaragoza. The project is slated as the first of three planned standalone films, and will be directed by Lauren Montgomery, with William Mata acting as co-director. While plot details have not been released, the film will follow the exploits of Aang, Appa, Katara, Momo, Sokka, Suki, Toph, and Zuko as adults.

Flying Bark Productions, known for LEGO Monkie Kid and What If…? will animate. For the upcoming film, the animation studio stated it “will be looking to push the boundaries of hybrid animation, working within both 2D and CG styles.”

Original series creators Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino will produce alongside Eric Coleman (Avatar: The Last Airbender, SpongeBob SquarePants). The project is produced by Nickelodeon Animation, Paramount Animation, and Avatar Studios.
