HBO Taps Francesca Gardiner as ‘Harry Potter’ Series Showrunner

The scripted series will be a faithful adaptation of the original wizarding world novels by J.K. Rowling, with each season portraying the events from one of the seven books.

Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials) has been tapped to showrun and executive produce HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter reboot series. Mark Mylod (Succession, Game of Thrones) will also executive produce, as well as direct several episodes.

The series will be a faithful adaptation of the novel series by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling; each season will portray the events from one of the seven books.

According to the streamer, stories from each of Rowling’s Harry Potter books will become a “decade-long series featuring a new cast to lead a new generation with the beloved characters and dramatic locations that fans have loved for over twenty-five years.  Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the classic films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.”

HBO presents the series in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. Rowling executive produces alongside Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman.

As per the recent updated designation, Harry Potter and other major projects will be developed at HBO as HBO Originals, but will still stream on Max.
