Annie Award-winner Joaquim Dos Santos will present in person the ‘making of’ Sony Picture Animation’s newest voyage into the Spider-Verse; the conference takes place October 15-20 in Turin, Italy.
Italy’s premier international event on Computer Graphics, Interactive Techniques, Digital Cinema, 2D/3D Animation, VR and AR, Gaming, and VFX, has announced Annie Award-winner Joaquim Dos Santos, who directed - along with Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson - Sony Pictures Animation’s hit animated feature Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, will be on hand for a live presentation about the “making of” the film.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which received the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2019. In the new film, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) reunites with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), only to be catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters the Spider Society, a team of Spider-People charged with protecting the Multiverse’s very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must set out on his own to save those he loves most. Anyone can wear the mask – it’s how you wear it that makes you a hero.
A 20-plus-year veteran in the animation industry, Dos Santos began his career as a storyboard artist on Sony Television’s Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles and Men in Black: the Animated Series before moving on to storyboard, direct and produce on a variety of animated television shows such as Warner Bros.’ Justice League Unlimited and Teen Titans, as well as Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra and DreamWorks Animation’s Voltron: Legendary Defender. Dos Santos was born in Lisbon, Portugal, and moved to the United States when he was four. Summers were spent back in Portugal watching films, swimming in the ocean, and exploring castle ruins in the quiet seaside town of Sesimbra – time credited as influential on him as an artist. Dos Santos lives in Los Angeles, California, with his wife, Sharon, his son Lucas and their two dogs, Otis, and Murray.
