‘Nimona’ Directors Head to VIEW 2023

Nick Bruno and Troy Quane are set to attend the upcoming conference in-person to present their new animated feature, now streaming on Netflix, based on the New York Times best-selling graphic novel by ND Stevenson; the VIEW Conference takes place October 15-20 in Turin, Italy.

The VIEW Conference, Italy’s premier international event on Computer Graphics, Interactive Techniques, Digital Cinema, 2D/3D Animation, VR and AR, Gaming, and VFX, has announced that Nimona directors Nick Bruno and Troy Quane will attend this year’s conference in person and discuss directing Netflix’s new animated feature Nimona.

VIEW 2023, an English-speaking event, takes place October 15-20, 2023, in the beautiful baroque city of Turin, Italy. Tickets are now available from the official VIEW Conference website.

In the all-new original animated feature Nimona, when Ballister Boldheart (Riz Ahmed), a knight in a futuristic, medieval world, is framed for a crime he didn't commit, the only one who can help him prove his innocence is Nimona (Chloë Grace Moretz), a mischievous teen with a taste for mayhem — who also happens to be a shapeshifting creature Ballister has been trained to destroy. But with the entire kingdom out to get him, Nimona’s the best (or technically the only) sidekick Ballister can hope for. And as the lines between heroes, villains, and monsters start to blur, the two of them set out to wreak serious havoc — for Ballister to clear his name once and for all, and for Nimona to…just wreak serious havoc.

Formerly with Blue Sky Studios, Bruno is an American film director and animator. Nimona, based on the popular graphic novel of the same name by ND Stevenson, is Bruno’s second feature directorial role. Quane is a Canadian film director and 27-year veteran of the animation industry. Following his feature film directing debut, Spies in Disguise (2019), Nimona marks his second feature directorial role.

In 2005, Bruno joined Blue Sky Studios as a junior animator on the feature film Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006). Most recently, Bruno directed Spies in Disguise and published his own graphic novel “Urban Legendz.” Additional animation credits include The Peanuts Movie (2015); Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears A Who (2008); Ice Age: Dawn of The Dinosaurs (2009); Rio (2011); Epic (2013); Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012); Ice Age: Collision Course (2016); and two short films Surviving Sid (2008) and the Oscar-nominated, No Time for Nuts (2006).

A 27-year animation industry veteran Quane began his career as a traditional animator for Walt Disney Animation Canada. Through 2005 he worked as a senior animator on various commercials and feature films until joining the live-action Disney film Enchanted as storyboard supervisor. He continued in the story department with various studios, which led him to direct the 22-minute SONY Pictures’ short film The Smurfs: A Christmas Carol (2011). Quane’s additional credits include Fox Feature Animation’s Titan A.E. (2000); Warner Bros. Feature Animation’s Osmosis Jones (2001); Universal’s Curious George (2006); Focus Features’ 9 (2009); Aardman Animation’s Arthur Christmas (2011); SONY Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania (2012); and Blue Sky Studios feature films The Peanuts Movie (2015), Ice Age: Collision Course (2016) and the Academy Award-nominated film Ferdinand (2017).

Nimona was brought to the screen by Annapurna and DNEG Animation, and is now streaming on Netflix.
