South Africa’s Toya Delazy Makes ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ a Quartet

A five-part event titled ‘The Power of Four’ premiering Sept. 17 will reveal the character’s name and appearance.

The Powerpuff Girls have been fighting crime as a trio from the series debut in 1998 through the reboot series that premiered in 2016. But all that’s changing Sept. 17, when the show debuts a five-part movie titled The Power of Four that will introduce a fourth Powerpuff Girl.

The new character’s name and appearance are being kept under wraps until the broadcast, but the voice will be that of Toya Delazy, a 27-year-old pop star from South Africa who sang that nation’s version of the theme song for the current series.

In a statement, Delazy said:

"I have always dreamed of being the voice of a cartoon character. Never did I think I would be recording a voice-over as the new Powerpuff Girl for Cartoon Network, though!”

Turner Broadcasting Senior VP Jamie Ondarza added:

"Toya Delazy is definitely a perfect fit for The Powerpuff Girls brand. Toya is definitely a perfect fit as the fourth Powerpuff Girl. She is confident, bubbly and quirky; all the values that we are familiar with, love and appreciate. We have a lot of surprises up our sleeves."

The Powerpuff Girls: The Power of Four debuts Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. on Cartoon Network.
