Second Biennial Irish Animation Awards Set for March 25

Biennial awards ceremony celebrating the outstanding talent of Irish Animation, VFX and Gaming Industries to be held on March 25, 2017 at the Dingle Skelligs Hotel in Dingle.

The second Irish Animation Awards will take place on Saturday March 25, 2017 at the Dingle Skelligs Hotel in Dingle. Kindly sponsored by RTÉ and Irish Film Board, this is Animation Ireland’s biennial awards ceremony to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding creative talent we have within the Irish Animation, VFX and gaming industries.

The IAA’s also recognize and support animation students with the “Best Student Film” and “Best International Student Film” categories. Organizers have also introduced a new category, “Best Animated Commercial,” for 2017. There are 15 award categories overall.

Dingle is home to the internationally renowned Dingle Film Festival and specifically Animation Dingle for the last five years. It provides the perfect backdrop for the IAA’s.

“Irish Animation is recognized as the best in the world with numerous international awards,” Animation Ireland chair Paul Young commented. “In March 2017, we’ll have our own event to celebrate the talent in studios across the country. Our inaugural event was such a special night, with all Irish studios and talent celebrating together, I have been looking forward to this second event for a long time! See you all in beautiful Dingle!”

Winners of each category will receive a statuette designed by animator, filmmaker and teacher Eimhin McNamara. The statuette resembles a Phenakistoscope, which was an early animation device used to create an illusion of motion.
