BBC Picks Up Koala Brothers For Poland, Africa And Asia-Pacific

U.K. children's rights owner and producer Spellbound Ent. has inked a new broadcast deal with BBC Worldwide Channels for its award-winning pre-school series, THE KOALA BROTHERS.

CBeebies in Poland, Africa and Asia-Pacific have each acquired all 78x10 episodes plus the 46 minute Christmas special, "The Koala Brothers Outback Christmas" and will start broadcasting the series later this year.

CBeebies was the first broadcaster to acquire THE KOALA BROTHERS for the U.K. market when Spellbound started production in 2002.

CBeebies will start broadcasting the hit pre-school series on the Cyfrowy Polsat platform in Poland later this year alongside series such as IN THE NIGHT GARDEN, NUMBERJACKS and TODDWORLD. THE KOALA BROTHERS is already licensed in Poland to state broadcaster TVP.

THE KOALA BROTHERS will also get its first airing across Africa on CBeebies, which will be available via MultiChoice's DStv platform starting September 1.

Meanwhile, CBeebies Asia-Pacific will screen the series in Hong Kong and Singapore alongside children's favorites TELETUBBIES and THE ROLY MO SHOW.

THE KOALA BROTHERS won the award for Best Pre-School Series at the British Animation Awards 2004 and THE KOALA BROTHERS Christmas special won the Writers Award at the British Animation Awards 2006. The series has also been nominated for four BAFTA awards.

THE KOALA BROTHERS are currently playing to packed theatres across the U.K. as part of BBC Worldwide's 40 week "live" tour CBEEBIES AT THE THEATRE.

THE KOALA BROTHERS was created by Australian-born animation producer/director, David Johnson and was originally commissioned by CBBC in the U.K. It has now been acquired by more than 60 broadcasters covering 155 territories worldwide, including Disney Channel in the U.S. and Japan; Treehouse and Tele-Quebec in Canada; Discovery Kids in Latin America; Super RTL and EMTV in Germany; France 5 and Canal J in France; ABC and Nickelodeon in Australia; Jetix in Holland; Cartoon Network in India; EBS in Korea; TV12 in Singapore; Denmark's TV2; Norway's TV2; Sweden's TV4 and Finland's TV4 Nelonen.
