The committee has revised Rules and Procedures in some categories and announced name changes in others; submissions close on November 30; timing of the 22nd Annual VES Awards Presentation is TBD.
The VES Awards Committee has revised its Rules and Procedures (R&Ps), updating definitions of several categories to align with current industry practices. A complete list of the R&Ps is available here. The organization also announced that a new submission system update is in progress, and updates will be forthcoming.
Submissions for this year must be received by November 30, 2023; submission fees remain unchanged.
Name changes:
- Category 14: Outstanding Created Environment in an Episode, Commercial, Game Cinematic, or Real-Time Project
- Category 3: Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature
- Category 6: Outstanding Visual Effects in a Real-Time Project
- Category 12: Outstanding Created Environment in a Photoreal Feature
- Category 13: Outstanding Created Environment in an Animated Feature
- Category 14: Outstanding Created Environment in an Episode, Commercial, Game Cinematic, or Real-Time Project
The VES Awards Committee has changed the submission format for all video clips for 2023 to the following: Quicktime with video as ProRes 422 Proxy, 1920x1080p, 23.98fps, Rec709, Gamma 2.4. Audio as Stereo 16-bit 44.1/48KHz embedded uncompressed PCM.
Only ONE submission per project is allowed in the General Categories (categories 1 through 8). If more than one facility wishes to submit a project in one of those categories, they must coordinate their submission through either the overall VFX Supervisor or overall VFX Producer to create a joint entry. Only in broadcast or streaming categories may multiple submissions from the same project be allowed under limited circumstances.
Entrants are encouraged to submit optional PDFs of written supplemental material for posting to the View & Vote site.
Important Dates:
- January 1 through December 31, 2023: Period of Eligibility for Entries
- October 9, 2023: Submissions Open
- November 30, 2023: Submission Deadline
- The date of the 22nd Annual VES Awards presentation is to be determined.
