The two heavily favored features took home coveted Best Animated Feature and Best Visual Effects awards, respectively, with Christopher Nolan’s hit biopic taking home 8 awards in all, and Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ taking home 6, at last night’ 29th Annual awards ceremony.
Last night, the Critics Choice Association (CCA) announced the winners of the 29th Annual Critics Choice Awards at a star-studded gala held at The Barker Hangar in Los Angeles LIVE, hosted by Chelsea Handler and broadcast live on The CW.
Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, was named Best Animated Feature, while Netflix’s Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was named Best Animated Series.
Oppenheimer led all winners in the film categories, earning eight awards, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., Best Acting Ensemble, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Cinematography for Hoyte van Hoytema, Best Editing for Jennifer Lame, Best Visual Effects, and Best Score for Ludwig Göransson.
Barbie took home six awards, including Best Original Screenplay for Greta Gerwig & Noah Baumbach, Best Production Design for Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer, Best Costume Design for Jacqueline Durran, Best Hair & Makeup, Best Comedy, and Best Song for “I’m Just Ken.”
