Paramount Shuts Down Noggin App, Lays Off Entire Team

The paid children’s entertainment streaming app for licensed content, interactive videos/games, and popular Nickelodeon titles will no longer accept new subscriptions; big name titles, such as Nick Jr.’s ‘Blue’s Clues’ and ‘Dora the Explorer,’ will now be hosted at Paramount+.

Noggin, the children’s entertainment subscription-based streaming app for licensed content, interactive videos/games, and popular Nickelodeon titles, has been shut down by Paramount Global, according to Kidscreen. The entire Noggin team will be laid off as a result, though there's no word on how many people will be affected.

The SVOD service hosted over 1,000 educational games, videos, and books, some of which have no other platform. Big name titles, such as Nick Jr.’s Blue’s Clues, Dora the Explorer, and Santiago of the Seas, will now be hosted at Paramount+. The app will no longer accept new subscribers, while current subscribers will be allowed a transition period before the platform shuts down.

Although Noggin will be eliminated, kids and family programming remains a key genre in Paramount streaming, with children’s content being among the most watched and re-watched offerings on Paramount+. Perhaps the move was to bolster revenue for the juggernaut streamer, which lost $238 million in 2023, despite realizing a 3% boost in third quarter revenue. Fourth quarter earnings will be delivered on February 28.
