Nintendo Announces New ‘Mario’ Voice Actor

Kevin Afghani has assumed the role of the iconic Italian duo, Mario and Luigi, in the upcoming video game ‘Super Mario Bros. Wonder,’ after original actor Charles Martinet stepped away from the roles earlier this year.

Wah-hoo! Nintendo has announced Kevin Afghani (Dragon Ball R&R, Genshin Impact) will pick up the Mario and Luigi mantles in the newest Mario video game entry Super Mario Bros. Wonder, according to Variety.

Original voice actor Charles Martinet, who had voiced the beloved Mario game character since Super Mario 64 (as well as Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi), retired in August and now serves as Mario Ambassador. It is not currently known whether Afghani will be the permanent voice replacement in the franchise.

Afghani took to X to announce the news, stating, “Incredibly proud to have voiced Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Thanks to Nintendo for inviting me into the Flower Kingdom!”

Super Mario Bros. Wonder follows Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, Toadette, Nabbit, Yoshi and Princess Daisy, as they travel out of the Mushroom Kingdom and into the Floral Kingdom. The gang must face all new enemies and collect Wonder Seeds, which add a psychedelic element to the sidescroller.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is out now on Nintendo Switch.
