Keanu Reeves Joins Voice Cast of ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’

The ‘John Wick’ and ‘Matrix’ franchise favorite will voice Shadow, the black antihero hedgehog who serves as the antagonist to Sonic.

The franchise king has added another jewel to his crown. Keanu Reeves, best known for his work on the hit John Wick and The Matrix film series, has joined Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as the voice of Shadow, according to Variety. Hayden Christensen had been previously rumored as the voice of the black antihero hedgehog.

The third installment in the feature film franchise, which follows the adventures of the fastest blue hedgehog alive, also stars the returning cast of Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles, James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic. Colleen O’Shaughnessey joins the project as the voice of Tails.

Jeff Fowler also returns to direct from a script by Pat Casey and Josh Miller, although plot details are still firmly under wraps. The VFX are being created by Clear Angle Studios, Fin Design + Effects, and Track VFX. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara, and Hitoshi Okuno produce.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 speeds into theaters December 20.

In the meantime, check out Knuckles, a Sonic the Hedgehog spinoff mini-series, streaming now on Paramount+.
