SpinVFX Names Samir Hoon President and VFX Supervisor

The industry veteran spent 19 years at ILM, where he led the Singapore expansion, as well as 6 years at Netflix, before returning to Toronto.

SpinVFX has named industry veteran Samir Hoon president and VFX supervisor. He brings extensive industry experience to his new role, returning to Toronto following a six-year tenure at Netflix as director of Production Solutions, Asia-Pacific.

Prior to Netflix, Hoon spent 19 years at Industrial Light & Magic/Lucasfilm in various artistic and leadership positions, eventually leading their 2012 Singapore Studio expansion.

“Samir’s like-minded passion for the art and production of filmmaking make him the perfect fit for our team,” said SpinVFX CEO/executive producer Neishaw Ali. “I’m very excited to have Samir join our spin family. His superpower is his ability to bridge the gap between filmmakers and production to bring their stories to life onscreen by finding creative and technical solutions.”

Hoon's work includes notable projects such as Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Eragon, Bumblebee, Star Trek Into Darkness, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, and Tron: Legacy.

"Returning to contribute to the legacy of a company like SpinVFX is incredibly exciting,” said Hoon. “Spin's history of innovation, from its roots in shaping industry-standard tools to its work on groundbreaking projects, has always been inspiring. I'm thrilled to join this talented team and leverage my experience to help propel Spin's continued success."
