International Digital Emmy Awards at MIPTV 2009

Reed MIDEM and the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (I.A.T.A.S.) announced the launch of the fourth International Digital Emmy Awards (I.D.E.A.), to take place at MIPTV (March 30-April 3, 2009 Cannes, France). The call for entries runs until January 12, 2009.

The International Digital Emmy Awards are recognizing excellence in content created and designed for viewer interaction and/or delivery on a digital platform (i.e. interactive TV, mobile, internet, etc.) originating outside of the United States.

Blue Room Refreshes History Graphics For Network's International Channels

On the heels of their award-winning collaboration on the History Channel refresh earlier this year, Blue Room has been tapped to create an international version of the graphics package. AETN International, the international sales division of History, turned to the New York-based creative services agency to convert all domestic History refresh graphics to international formats and standards taking into account multiple time zones, languages, different alphabets and alphabets that read right to left.

AJA KONA 3 Enables Post Production For Las Meninas

AJA Video Systems' KONA 3 video capture and playback cards were used on LAS MENINAS, the first full-length feature film from the Ukraine to employ an all-digital workflow.

KONA 3 is AJA's top-of-the-line uncompressed capture card for SD, HD, Dual Link HD and 2K for PCI Express (PCIe) Apple Mac Pro systems, and was an integral part of the Final Cut Pro editing pipeline for the film, which premiered in Tiger Awards Competition at the 37th Rotterdam International Film Festival on January 25, 2008.

The 52nd San Francisco International Film Festival, a celebration of international and independent film and filmmakers, will run April 23-May 7, 2009. The call for entries for narrative features, documentary features and short films is now open. The primary deadline is Friday, November 7 and the final deadline is Friday, December 5, 2008.

Jim Henson Co. Brings Latest Preschool Property To International Market

The Jim Henson Company has appointed children's television industry veteran Sam Ewing to handle the international sales of its newest property SID THE SCIENCE KID.

In his new position, Ewing will be responsible for overseeing the international sales effort of the acclaimed 3D animated pre-school series, SID THE SCIENCE KID, debuting in the U.S. on September 1, as part of the popular PBS KIDS preschool destination, the hosted two-hour morning block and online destination at pbskids.org.

Entertainment One has acquired three television content suppliers: Blueprint Ent., Barna-Alper Productions, Maximum Films and Oasis International.

As a result, Blueprint is now part of a public company trading on the AIM exchange in the U.K. and operating as a fully integrated film and television production and distribution company with offices in Toronto, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, London, Holland and Belgium.

Universal Pictures International Entertainment announced plans to release 29 titles on Blu-ray for the first time, unveiling a line-up of the year's most anticipated film and television content to be made available on the next generation high definition disc.

This major international debut, part of Universal's global Blu-ray rollout, begins on August 26 with the release of the top-rated, critically acclaimed NBC phenomenon HEROES Season 2. The announcement was made today by Eddie Cunningham, President of Universal Pictures International Entertainment.

TeamTO has started production for the 26 x 13 minutes, fun-packed, 3D animated series INTERNATIONAL HAREPORT.

A development agreement was signed with TF1 for this project after its presentation at the Cartoon Forum in 2006.

The series has received from the support of the Procirep and of the Centre National de laCinematographie in France. The project also benefits from several pre-sales in Europe, including in Norway, Sweden and Belgium.

Comic Actor Justin Long Set For Hell

Justin Long ("I'm a Mac", LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD) is set to star in Sam Raimi's DRAG ME TO HELL, VARIETY reports.

Long will play Alison Lohman's character's boyfriend in the supernatural morality tale.

Raimi and brother Ivan wrote the screenplay, shooting is set to start March 31 in Los Angeles.

The Ghost House Pictures movie is being distributed domestically and in some international territories by Universal, Mandate International will cover all other foreign ground.

IMAX Box Office For Spiderwick Encouraging

IMAX Corporation announced today that THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES, a fantasy adventure based on the best-selling series of books, opened well in IMAX theaters over the five-day opening weekend, grossing approximately $1.9 million of the film's $26.8 million total, or 7 percent of the overall box office.

Nineteen of the top twenty locations in North America included an IMAX theater.
