In December 2020, Yoozoo Group chairman Lin Qi was fatally poisoned by the company’s senior executive Xu Yao over a dispute involving a demotion and pay cut. On March 22, more than three year later, the Shanghai First Intermediate People's Court found Yao guilty of murder and sentenced him to death, according to Business Insider. The ruling came just one day after their long-gestating series 3 Body Problem debuted on Netflix.
The court proceedings also revealed Xu had poisoned four other colleagues, including his replacement as the head of the subsidiary that controlled business related to the sci-fi series. Thankfully, all other victims recovered.
Qi was posthumously credited as a producer on Netflix’s 3 Body Problem a live-action adaptation of Liu Cixin’s Hugo Award winning sci-fi novel “The Three-Body Problem” (the first book in the “Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy”). Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss also produce, alongside Alexander Woo (True Blood), who serves as showrunner and Rian Johnson, Rosamund Pike, and Brad Pitt’s Plan B, who all executive produce.
The extraterrestrial VFX are created by Clear Angle Studios, Eyeline Studios, Image Engine, NVIZ, Scanline VFX, and SSVFX, with Ed Bruce acting as visual effects supervisor.
No word yet on when the death sentence will be carried out.
