Warner Bros. Drops First Teaser Trailer for ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’

The gritty ’80s jukebox musical, which centers on the romantic relationship between Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker and Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn, dances into theaters October 4.

He’s not alone anymore. Warner Bros. has finally dropped the first teaser trailer for the Joker sequel Joker: Folie à Deux, and it simply bleeds love. Director Todd Phillips debuted the footage at CinemaCon earlier in the week.

“I like to say it’s a movie where music is an essential element,” said Phillips. “It doesn’t veer too far from the first film. Arthur has music in him. He has a grace to him.”

Joker: Folie à Deux takes place in the DC Elseworlds franchise, but not as part of the new official DCU timeline currently in development from James Gunn and Peter Safran. The gritty ’80s jukebox musical centers on the romantic relationship between Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker and Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn, and also features the talents of Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond, Jacob Lofland, Brendan Gleeson, Harry Lawtey, and Catherine Keener.

Returning for the mad sequel is director Phillips, who will again pen the script alongside Scott Silver. Scanline VFX returns to craft the VFX alongside Barnstorm VFX and Lola VFX, with Ivan Moran acting as visual effects supervisor.

Joker: Folie à Deux dances into theaters October 4.
