A Very 'R-Rated' First Trailer Drops for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

Ryan Reynolds returns as the fourth wall breaking ‘Merc with a Mouth’ in the third installment of the scandalous Marvel Studios franchise, alongside Hugh Jackman as Wolverine; the film hits theaters July 26.

Now that’s what we call maximum effort! The first trailer and image set has finally dropped for Deadpool & Wolverine, the third installment in the insanely popular and scandalous Marvel Studios franchise. Did we detect a bit of R-rated Aunt Peg talk?

Ryan Reynolds returns as the fourth wall-breaking ‘Merc with a Mouth’ alongside franchise newcomer Hugh Jackman as Logan, aka Wolverine. In a very welcome surprise, the trailer also features the Time Variance Authority (TVA), the multiversal ‘cops’ first revealed in the Marvel Disney+ series Loki. The timelines are merging!

The film also stars Morena Baccarin as Vanesssa; Jennifer Garner as Elektra; Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead; Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio; Karan Soni as Dopinder; and Stefan Kapicic as the voice of Colossus.

Shawn Levy directs from a script co-written by Levy, Wendy Molyneux, Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, Rhett Reese, Ryan Reynolds, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. Kevin Feige, Mitchell Bell, Simon Kinberg, Levy, and Reynolds produce. The VFX are created by Cantina Creative, Clear Angle Studios, Framestore, ILM, Second Unit, and Weta FX, with Marcus Dryden acting as visual effects supervisor for Second Unit and Tony Lupoi serving as visual effects supervisor for Cantina Creative.

The project was one of the first productions to halt filming during last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike, after performers headed straight to the picket line. The project had previously side-stepped the writer’s strike by requiring Ryan Reynolds to stick to the script with no improvisation.

Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters July 26.
