‘Top Gun 3’ in Development, Tom Cruise Set to Return

‘Maverick’ co-writer Ehren Kruger will also return to pen the script alongside director Joe Kosinski, with Miles Teller and Glen Powell rumored to reprise their roles as Lt Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw and Lt. Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin.

Ready to head into the Dangerzone one more time? Two years after the widely acclaimed sequel Top Gun: Maverick flew into theaters, THR has confirmed a third Top Gun flick is in development with franchise lead Tom Cruise attached to star.

Maverick co-writer Ehren Kruger will also return to pen the third installment alongside director Joe Kosinski. Miles Teller and Glen Powell will likely reprise their roles as Lt Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw and Lt. Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin.

The long awaited 2022 franchise sequel, which Steven Speilberg credited with saving the theatrical business after the pandemic, proved a major box office success. The film boasts astounding aerial footage and battles achieved with the digital augmentation of 2,400 shots that seamlessly blend live-action photography with practical and visual effects. Overseeing that mission’s covert operations was Visual Effects Supervisor Ryan Tudhope, supported by the expertise of Method Studios, MPC, Lola VFX, and Blind LTD, as well as a nod from the U.S. Navy, which endorsed the production.

Top Gun 3 is most likely at least two years away as Cruise is currently focusing on the eighth Mission: Impossible installment, set for a May 2025 release.
