Sony Launches the ‘Wonderverse’ Experience

Chicago area entertainment destination features physical and immersive multimedia experiences, interactive installations, and attractions based on the studio's popular movies, series, and games, including ‘Ghostbusters,’ ‘Jumanji,’ ‘Uncharted,’ and ‘Zombieland.’

Sony Pictures Entertainment has opened Wonderverse, a new immersive entertainment destination in Oak Brook, IL, that takes guests beyond the screen into imaginative worlds from popular films, television series, and video games such as Ghostbusters, Jumanji, Uncharted, and Zombieland.

A 45,000-square-foot transformative space hosts a hybrid of physical and immersive multimedia experiences, interactive installations, dynamic attractions, and themed dining experiences, including “The Ghost Trap” - a hidden speakeasy taking guests into the Ghostbusters universe with gems from the franchise incorporated into every inch of the space.

“Wonderverse is an exciting expansion for Sony Pictures’ growing location-based entertainment experiences,” said Jeffrey Godsick, EVP of Global Partnerships and Brand Management and Head of Location Based Entertainment at Sony Pictures. “Experiences like Wonderverse provide audiences the opportunity to enjoy our brands in new ways by immersing themselves in some of their favorite stories.”

The Wonderverse invites fans to step beyond the screen into their favorite movies and dive deeper into the stories created by immersive worlds. Wonderverse offers “the promise of wonder at every turn, with interactive experiences, food, and drinks, with each experience inspired by a celebration of curiosity and connection.”

“We’re thrilled to be the first location for Sony Pictures Entertainment's Wonderverse and have it as our largest entertainment option at Oakbrook Center,” added Tim Geiges, Senior General Manager of Oakbrook Center. “We often hear from guests how they love our mix of entertainment, so we’re excited to offer a completely new experience for them to enjoy, especially as we approach the colder months.”

Here are some of Wonderverse’s offerings:

  • Ghostbusters VR is a chance to be a real ghostbuster with two distinct virtual reality experiences.
  • Bad Boys Racing Club surrounds guests with a Miami-inspired skyline with illuminated photo-ops. Ride like the bad boys in this collection of racing simulators that take guests on a high-speed chase to victory.
  • Zombieland Bumper Cars - One car is patient zero in this bumper car ride. Riders must avoid getting bumped or becoming zombies. Navigate chaos, stay uninfected, and escape the outbreak.
