Yes, the eponymous feline was incredibly cute long before he was insufferably indifferent. Indeed, he once was a cuddly little kitty. And he always loved lasagna... Directed by Mark Dindal, the new 3DCG animated film finds the famed cat (voiced by Chris Pratt), the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, as he is about to have a wild outdoor adventure! After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – scruffy street cat Vic (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) – Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist.
The film's stellar animation is produced by DNEG Animation.
The all-star cast also includes Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein, and Bowen Yang. The film is produced by John Cohen, Broderick Johnson, Andrew A. Kosove, Steven P. Wegner, Craig Sost, and Namit Malhotra.
Although the franchise has remained popular since it first appeared in newspaper comic sections in 1978, Garfield only touts two live action/CGI feature films, and the franchise has remained off the big screen since the second film, A Tale of Two Kitties, premiered in 2006. The upcoming Alcon Entertainment offering will be the first fully animated theatrical project starring the lasagna-obsessed kitty.
Dindal directs from a screenplay by Paul A. Kaplan & Mark Torgove and David Reynolds.
