‘Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken’ Now on Digital

DreamWorks Animation’s animated feature tells the story of a shy 16-year-old who discovers she’s descended from a legendary line of royal sea Krakens; following today’s digital release, the ‘Collector’s Edition’ comes to Blu-ray and DVD in September.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment brings home DreamWorks Animation’s Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken Collector’s Edition on Digital August 29, 2023, and on Blu-ray and DVD September 26, 2023, featuring over an hour of never-before-seen bonus features including deleted scenes, Make Your Own Aquarium how-to video, interviews with cast and crew, and character drawing tutorials.

In the film, sweet, awkward 16-year-old Ruby Gillman is desperate to fit in at Oceanside High, but she mostly just feels invisible. She’s math-tutoring her skater-boy crush, who only seems to admire her for her fractals, and her over-protective supermom, prevents her from being a cool kid by forbidding Ruby from ever getting in the water. When Ruby breaks her mother’s #1 rule, she discovers that she is a direct descendant of the warrior Kraken queens and is destined to inherit the throne from her commanding grandmother (Jane Fonda), the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas.

The film is directed by Kirk DeMicco (Vivo, The Croods), produced by Kelly Cooney Cilella (Trolls World Tour), co-directed by Faryn Pearl (story artist, The Croods: A New Age, Trolls World Tour), and written by Pam Brady (South Park). The all-star cast includes Lana Condor (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before franchise); Golden Globe winner Toni Collette (The Boxtrolls, Knives Out); Emmy winner Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek); Emmy winner Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts); Emmy nominee Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso); Liza Koshy (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts); Emmy nominee Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth); Jaboukie Young-White (Strange World, Ralph Breaks the Internet); Eduardo Franco (Stranger Things); Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever, Legends of Tomorrow); and Academy Award winner Jane Fonda (Book Club: The Next Chapter, 80 For Brady).
