R-Rated Live-Action ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Feature in Development

Paramount and Walter Hamada are producing the project, titled ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin,’ which will adapt a popular storyline from the recent IDW comics; Tyler Burton Smith is set to pen the script.

A live-action, R-rated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles feature is in development with Paramount Pictures and producer Walter Hamada, THR exclusively reports. The project, titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, will adapt a popular storyline from the recent IDW comics. Tyler Burton Smith (Boy Kills World) will pen the script.

Set in a totalitarian future New York City, Last Ronin follows the deaths of master Splinter and all but one of the Turtles. The survivor, whose identity is not immediately clear, then exacts bloody revenge on his brothers’ killer, using all four of their iconic weapons.

The comic, which was based on an older story by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, was co-created by Eastman and Tom Waltz. The books were published between 2020 and 2022, and proved a massive success, with the collected trade paperback becoming the second-highest-selling graphic novel of 2023.

Hamada will produce the feature adaptation through his 18hz banner as part of his overall multiyear deal with Paramount.
