Paramount+ Renews ‘Star Trek’ Series ‘Lower Decks’ and ‘Strange New Worlds’

The streamer boldly goes where no one has gone before, announcing additional season pickups for both shows while setting summer premieres of Season 4 and Season 2, respectively, for the series.

Paramount+ has announced all-new seasons of its popular original series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Lower Decks will premiere globally this summer. Fans can also look forward to even more episodes, with both series snagging additional 10-episode season renewals.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 premieres June 15 on Paramount+ in the U.S., the U.K., Australia, Latin America, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, with new episodes streaming weekly on Thursdays. The new season will also be available to stream on Paramount+ in South Korea, with dates to be announced.

Based on the years Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds follows Pike (Anson Mount), Science Officer Spock (Ethan Peck), and Number One (Rebecca Romijn) in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the ship, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.

It also stars Jess Bush (Nurse Christine Chapel); Christina Chong (La’an Noonien-Singh); Celia Rose Gooding (Cadet Nyota Uhura); Melissa Navia (Lt. Erica Ortegas); and Babs Olusanmokun (Dr. M’Benga). Season 2 also features the return of special guest star Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk and new addition Carol Kane in a recurring role as Pelia.

Season 2 will include a previously announced special crossover episode featuring both live-action and animation with Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Tawny Newsome as Ensign Beckett Mariner and Jack Quaid as Ensign Brad Boimler joining the U.S.S. Enterprise. The episode is directed by Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Picard actor and director Jonathan Frakes.

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 4 premieres in late summer 2023 in the U.S., with final release dates for the U.S. and international debuts to be announced.

The streamer also announced the critically acclaimed original animated kids’ series Star Trek: Prodigy will return with Season 2 this winter. The Children’s and Family Emmy Award-winning series is from Nickelodeon and C.B.S. Studios’ Eye Animation Productions.

The 3DCG animated series is the first Star Trek show aimed at younger audiences and follows a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy in search of a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered (a first in the franchise's history), but over their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.

As previously announced, Star Trek: Discovery's fifth and final season will premiere in early 2024.
