New Line’s ‘Salem’s Lot’ Remake Will Debut on Max

Warner Bros.’ forthcoming feature adaptation of the Stephen King vampire novel, first pushed from a Fall 2022 to Spring 2023 release before being shelved by the SAG-AFTRA strike, will bypass cinemas and stream later this year.

Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that New Line’s upcoming Salem’s Lot feature adaptation of the Stephen King vampire novel will debut on Max in 2024. The film was previously slated for a theatrical release in late 2022, was moved to April 21, 2023, then shelved due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Considering the studio’s recent track record, any release is good news.

Set in 1975, Salem’s Lot tells the story of author Ben Mears, who visits his hometown in search of inspiration for his next book only to find the locals are slowly transforming into vampires.

Lewis Pullman stars as Ben Mears alongside Alfre Woodard as Dr. Cody, Makenzie Leigh as Susan Norton, Bill Camp as Matthew Burke, Spencer Treat Clark as Mike Ryerson, Pilou Asbæk as Straker, and John Benjamin Hickey as Father Callahan.

The blood thirsty VFX were created by Crafty Apes, EVP Film, Ingenuity Studios, and New Line Cinema, with Grant Miller and Brandon Nelson acting as visual effects supervisors. Remy Normand served as visual effects supervisor for Crafty Apes.

The project reunites the producing teams behind the record-breaking horror franchises The Conjuring universe and the IT films. Gary Dauberman writes, directs, and executive produces. Michael Bederman also executive produces alongside Vertigo’s Andrew Childs and Atomic Monster’s Judson Scott.
