Netflix Drops ‘One Piece’ Trailer

Based on the enormously popular manga by Eiichiro Oda, the live-action adaptation of the high-seas adventure sets sail on the streamer August 31.

Netflix has released the official trailer and a trove of images for the highly anticipated live-action series One Piece, accompanied by a personally penned letter from One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda. The series, a high-seas adventure starring Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy; Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro; Emily Rudd as Nami; Jacob Romero as Usopp; and Taz Skylar as Sanji, hits the streamer August 31.

Oda-Sensei shared his thoughts on the live-action adaptation, production, changes from the manga, and the cast and crew – read it below.

Based on Japan’s hugely popular manga series by Oda, the show is a legendary high-seas adventure about Monkey D. Luffy, a young adventurer who has longed for a life of freedom for as long as he can remember. In his quest to become King of the Pirates, Luffy sets off from his small village on a perilous journey to find the fabled treasure “One Piece.” But to find the ultimate prize, Luffy will first need to assemble the crew, find a ship to sail, and then search every inch of the vast blue seas while outpacing the Marines and outwitting dangerous rivals at every turn.

The series is created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix. Matt Owens and Steven Maeda are writers, executive producers, and showrunners. Oda, Marty Adelstein, and Becky Clements also executive produce. Additional cast includes Vincent Regan; Ilia Isorelýs Paulino; Morgan Davies; Aidan Scott; Langley Kirkwood; Jeff Ward; Celeste Loots; Alexander Maniatis; McKinley Belcher III; Craig Fairbrass; Steven Ward; and Chioma Umeala. Michael Dorman joins the cast as Gold Roger.
