Matthew Orton Joins ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ As Writer

Although principal photography was completed before both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, additional shoots have been expected, delaying the film multiple times with the premiere now set for February 14, 2025.

Matthew Orton (Operation Finale, Moon Knight) has joined Captain America: Brave New World as a screenwriter ahead of additional photography shoots this spring, reports Variety.  The project has already gone through multiple rounds of delays due to Disney slate shakeups, moving first from a premiere date of May 3, 2024 to July 26, 2024 and then to February 14, 2025 during the post-strike scramble. While principal shoots were completed before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes stopped production, additional shoots have long been expected.

Brave New World stars Anthony Mackie as the eponymous hero and is joined by Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Shira Haas, and Danny Ramirez. Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson also reprise their roles of Betty Ross and Samuel Sterns from The Incredible Hulk.

Julius Onah directs from a script by Malcolm Spellman (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), and Dalan Musson (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier). Nate Moore, Kevin Feige, and Mitchell Bell produce. The superhero VFX were crafted by Crafty Apes, Day for Nite, Digital Domain, Weta FX, and The Third Floor with Bill Westenhofer serving as production visual effects supervisor.

VFX companies on the fourth Captain America installment include Cinesite, Clear Angle Studios, Crafty Apes, Day For Nite, Digital Domain, Encore VFX, ILM, Luma Pictures, Ollin VFX, Onyx VFX, Rodeo FX, Scanline VFX, The Third Floor, and Weta FX, with Lou Pecora acting as visual effects supervisor.

Captain America: Brave New World opens in theaters on February 14, 2025.
