Lionsgate has just released the first official trailer for The Crow, with Bill Skarsgård taking on the iconic role of ‘The Crow’ in this modern reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O’Barr. The long-gestating film, which has been in the works for over a decade with a revolving door of creatives attached, is finally on track. And this gritty, grisly thriller is not for the squeamish!

In the film, soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.

Also starring are Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Jordan Bolger, and Isabella Wei as Zadie. Rupert Sanders directs from a script by Zach Baylin and William Schneider. Edward R. Pressman produces alongside Samuel Hadida, Victor Hadida, John Jencks, and Molly Hassell.

The otherworldly VFX are created by Clear Angle Studios and Scanline VFX.

The Crow swoops into theaters June 7.
