Lionsgate Drops ‘Borderlands’ Trailer and Posters

If minimal explosions bore you, you're in for a treat, as Eli Roth's action-packed adaptation of the famous Gearbox game blasts into theaters August 9th!

Lionsgate has just dropped a trailer and character posters for Eli Roth’s explosive new action adventure, Borderlands, adapted from the famous Gearbox Software video game published by 2K. And it’s got Jack Black as the robot, Claptrap. And if the film is half as humorous as the trailer, this film could do some serious box office damage this summer.

In the film, Lilith (Cate Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B. Atlas (Edgar Ramirez). Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland (Kevin Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Jack Black), a persistently wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power.

From Lionsgate, the film is directed by Roth from a screenplay by Roth and Joe Crombie.

VFX for the explosive adaptation are being crafted by Clear Angle Studios, Crafty Apes, DNEG, Framestore, Method Studios, NVIZ, OPSIS, and ReDefine. Visual effects supervisors include Scott Stokdyk; Patric Roos; Manolo Mantero for DNEG/ReDefine; François Lambert and Benoit De Longlee for DNEG; Avi Goodman for Method Studios; Ferran Domenech; and Nikolas d’Andrade. Andrew Menzies serves as production designer.

Ari Arad, p.g.a., Avi Arad, and Erik Feig produce; Tim Miller, Ethan Smith, Louise Rosner, Emmy Yu, and Lucy Kitada serve as executive producers.
