The Layzell Bros. Win Grand Prix at Cannes for ‘Shoplifters’ Short

Short film for U.K. retailer Harvey Nichols cleverly employs live-action security footage blended with 2D animation to create a humorous short film to help discourage shoplifting.

LONDON -- Blinkink's Layzell Bros took the top honor in the Film category at Cannes Lions for their Harvey Nichols “Shoplifters” ad. Since its release last Summer the online ad has been on a hot run of awards, including a D&AD Yellow Pencil, a Gold Pencil at The One Show and 3 BTAA Arrows. Winning the coveted Film Grand Prix at Cannes heralds an amazing end to an amazing year for the Bros.

Working with adam&eveDDB, the directing duo carefully sifted through hours of CCTV security footage from the Harvey Nichols stores, piecing together the stories of the not-so-skillful shoplifters. Rather than blurring their faces, they cleverly created cartoon caricatures of the thieves to mask their identities and make fun of their foolishness.

Crime may be no laughing matter, but criminals certainly can be!
