Je Suis Bien Content Launches ‘Silex & The City’ Feature Production

Based on the popular comic book series by Juls, the 2D live-action hybrid prehistoric operetta follows the Dotcom family in a tragi-comic time-travel escapade that kicks off evolution; coming to theaters in Q4 2024.

French animation company Je Suis Bien Content has announced the production launch of a new live-action / 2D animated hybrid film based on Jul’s popular comic book series "Silex & The City." The film is set to complete in Spring 2024 with a theatrical release planned for Q4 2024. The comic book has already inspired a prime-time television series adaptation consisting of 180 episodes airing on Arte.

Silex & The City - The Movie is a cinematic extension of the adventures of the Dotcom family, which includes Blog, the father and a hunting professor; Spam, the mother, and a prehistoric geography teacher; and their children, Web, a rebellious teenager; and Url, an alter-Darwinist activist. In a seemingly stagnant prehistoric operetta, a father-daughter conflict will disrupt the Stone Age routine. Following a tragi-comic time-travel escapade into the future, they accidentally bring back the equivalent of an Ikea “Allen wrench” that triggers evolution for better or, more importantly, for worse!

"A true leap in the evolution chain, the transition of Silex and the City from the 3-minute format to feature-length is a small revolution,” commented Jul. “Moving from a 'one sentence, one joke' style of writing to a more thrilling adventure, where cinematic stakes take the lead: the Dotcom family becomes more endearing, references to genre film classics can resonate more deeply, and the political critique of our mad civilization truly comes to fruition in this long-form narrative!"

Je Suis Bien Content co-produces the film with Arte Cinéma and Leftfield (Belgium), in association with BE-TV (Belgium), SG Images, CNC, and Wallimages. Haut & Court is distributing the film to theaters in France, with international distribution by Urban. Je Suis Bien Content studio in Paris and at Wahoo! in Liège are creating the animation with the live-action portion filmed in mid-December in the Brussels region.

Written and co-directed by Jul alongside Jean-Paul Guigue and produced by Je Suis Bien Content’s Franck Ekinci, the film stars Bruno Solo, François Hollande; Julie Gayet; Stéphane Bern; Léa Drucker; Frédéric Beigbeder; and Amélie Nothomb. Addition voice cast includes Guillaume Gallienne; Michel Vuillermoz; Clément Sibony; Denis Ménochet; Noémie de Lattre; Frédéric Beigbeder; Sophia Aram; Lison Daniel; Alex Vizorek; Agnès Hurstel; Léa Salamé; Patrick Mille; Émilie Aubry; Ophélia Kolb; Raphaël Quenard; Océan; Augustin Trapenard; Félix Moati; and Amélie Nothomb.
