Harley Quinn Voice Actress Arleen Sorkin Passes at 67

Also known for her role as Calliope Jones on ‘Days of Our Lives,’ Sorkin was the original inspiration for the maniacal blonde villain and lent her voice to the character in ‘Batman: The Animated Series,’ video games, animated films, and multiple other series. 

Arleen Sorkin, the voice of Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series and the original inspiration for the maniacal blonde villain has passed away at 67, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While the exact cause of death is unknown, Sorkin had stepped away from acting due to health issues.

Although meant to be a one-off character in Batman: The Animated Series, Harley Quinn quickly became a fan favorite that went on to appear in multiple animated series, feature films, and video games. While Sorkin voiced the character in many projects, including Gotham Girls, Justice League, The Batman Superman Movie: World’s Finest, and more, voice actress Tara Strong has since picked up the black, red, and white mantle. Melissa Rauch voices the role in the 2017 film, Batman and Harley Quinn.

Sorkin got her show biz start in the 1970s and ‘80s as a comedian and cabaret performer, eventually landing her iconic role of Calliope Jones on Days of Our Lives in the mid 80s. She also co-hosted America’s Funniest People alongside Dave Coulier from 1990 to 1992.

In addition to acting, Sorkin served as a writer and producer on How to Marry a Billionaire and Fired Up and co-wrote the Jennifer Aniston flick Picture Perfect.

Mark Hamill, who voiced the Joker on Batman: The Animated Series took to Twitter to express his sadness at Sorkin’s passing.

James Gunn, head honcho co-CEO of DC Studios also remembered the late actress in a recent Instagram post.

Sorkin is survived by her husband Christopher Lloyd and their two children.
