In an unprecedented move, the FOX Network has thrown open its ballpark to let any level of player from any league a chance to pitch their animated ideas in the Pitch-O-Rama.
Animators, writers, artists, students - any creative individuals who have a fresh, innovative idea for an animated comedy show are encouraged to submit their material together with a signed release form. Well, almost anyone, you must be at least 18 years old and a legal resident of the United States, and eligible to work in the U.S.
For rules and the proper forms to submit your ideas, log on to fox.com/pitchorama to get a copy of the release. FOX is only looking for original concepts in this contest, and will not accept projects not based on a story, movie, song or other work owned or created by another person or company.
From a general pool of applicants, FOX will choose up to 100 creators to pitch their ideas to FOX executives in Los Angeles in November 2003. Selection will be based on the originality, creativity, humor and series potential of the project.
All submissions must be post-marked by Sept. 15, 2003 and received no later than Sept. 22, 2003 to be considered. Submissions will not be returned. Applicants should send a copy and retain the original. Materials must be sent, no hand deliveries or phone calls will be accepted.
The site addresses numerous questions and concerns about what the materials should consist of, provisions of the submission release and some of the procedures if one is chosen to pitch what FOX obviously hopes will be its next primetime animation hits to add to the long-running shows THE SIMPSONS and KING OF THE HILL.
A decade ago, Cartoon Network ran a storyboard contest to derive some of the shorts for its WHAT A CARTOON! program, which lead to spin-off series hits such as DEXTER'S LABORATORY and COW & CHICKEN.
