EGG VFX Names Aled Rhys Jones Head of Department

Industry veteran led studio’s art team to timely delivery of projects, on schedule and on budget, during COVID-19 lockdowns.

EGG VFX has named Aled Rhys Jones as new head of department. During the challenges of the 2020 COVID pandemic, the company’s team of 12 artists worked through two lockdowns in conjunction with Milk VFX in London and delivered over 400 shots in less than 27 weeks for Intergalactic (Sky, TX Q2 2021). The team also delivered over 150 shots for The Christmas Waltz, which was the 2nd highest rated cable broadcast in the US over the Christmas period. Jones’ leadership was a key factor in both projects delivering to high standards, on time and on budget.

A graduate of Central Saint Martin’s School of Art and Design, Jones relocated to Ireland with his young family, and brings his nearly 20 years of experience in the industry to heading EGG VFX. His long list of credits includes The Dark Crystal; Altered Carbon; Black Mirror; Spectre; The RevenantGame of Thrones; Wolf Hall; Interstellar; and Gravity.

“Technical problem solving, and visual storytelling has always been my passion,” commented Jones. “Supervising teams in London allowed me to discover my talent for leading, teaching and decision making. Heading up EGG VFX allows me to apply these skills, working in Ireland’s vibrant and growing VFX industry, using EGG’s first- rate infrastructure, and working alongside EGG’s world class feature and drama post facility”.

“We are delighted that Aled has decided to join our team,” shared co-CEO, Gareth Young. “His experience in the industry is second to none and he is a proven team leader. We look forward to expanding the footprint of EGG VFX and with Aled’s leadership allied to our established brand and a very competitive tax credit, make EGG VFX the best choice for full VFX projects or collaboration.”

Founded in 2011, EGG VFX has worked a wide range of content including independent shorts, commercials, and television documentaries, but its main focus is delivering characters, scenes, and shots for VFX driven drama and features such as Sinbad (Sky); Ghosthunters (Feature); Imaginary Mary (Sony); and Sea Fever (Feature).

A three-year Enterprise Ireland funded project means that all EGG’s VFX services can depend on a robust, first-rate, cutting-edge pipeline. Visual effects are a key component of almost every production that passes through sister company, EGG Post Production; the companies have a high degree of collaboration, knowledge, and information sharing.
