CG-animated sequel written and directed by Dean DeBlois bests Disney’s ‘Big Hero 6,’ Reel FX’s ‘Book of Life,’ LAIKA’s ‘The Boxtrolls’ and Warner Bros.’ ‘The LEGO Movie.’
On Sunday night, DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon 2 won the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature.
Written and directed by Dean DeBlois, the CG-animated sequel bested Disney’s Big Hero 6, Reel FX’s Book of Life, LAIKA’s The Boxtrolls and Warner Bros.’ The LEGO Movie for the honor.
In accepting the award, DeBlois and producer Bonnie Arnold thanked the crew of the film along with DreamWorks Animation head Jeffrey Katzenberg and former DWA chief creative officer Bill Damaschke.
Produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Fox, How to Train Your Dragon 2 made $49.5 million for its North American Debut when it was released in June 2014. The animated sequel went on to earn a total of $618.9 million worldwide, including $177 million domestically and $441.9 million overseas. The film stars the voice of Jay Baruchel as Hiccup, along with, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, TJ Miller, Kristen Wiig, Kit Harrington, Cate Blanchett and Djimon Hounsou.
The 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards, presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, were bestowed at the Beverly Hills Hilton in a gala ceremony hosted by comic actors Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
