David S. Goyer Steps Down as ‘Foundation’ Showrunner Over Budget Battles

EP Bill Bost will now oversee Season 3 photography, while Goyer will retain the ‘showrunner’ title and continue to write for the hit series, which was renewed by Apple TV+ for a third season last year.

Davis S. Goyer has stepped down from his duties as showrunner on the hit Apple TV+ series Foundation following alleged budgeting disagreements with production company Skydance, according to THR. While executive producer Bill Bost will now oversee Season 3 photography, Goyer will retain the “showrunner” title and continue to write for the hit series. Line producer Laurie Borg will also be replaced by Doug Moreno.

Renewed for a third season last year, the adaptation of Asimov’s Hugo Award-winning intergalactic book series chronicles the stories of four crucial individuals transcending space and time as they overcome deadly crises, shifting loyalties, and complicated relationships that will ultimately determine the fate of humanity. When revolutionary Dr. Harry Seldon predicts the impending fall of the Empire, he and a band of loyal followers venture to the far reaches of the galaxy to establish The Foundation in an attempt to rebuild and preserve the future of civilization.

The show features an international cast that includes Emmy nominees Jared Harris and Lee Pace, alongside rising stars Lou Llobell and Leah Harvey; it also stars Laura Birn, Terrence Mann, Cassian Bilton, and Alfred Enoch.

The series was previously led by showrunner and executive producer Goyer and produced for Apple by Skydance Television, with Robyn Asimov, Josh Friedman, Cameron Welsh, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Bost also serving as executive producers.

The futuristic VFX is led by Chris Maclean and Michael Enriquez with the help of Accenture Song VFX, Chicken Bones FX, Cinesite, Crafty Apes, DNEG, Mackevision, Outpost VFX, Rocket Science VFX, Rodeo FX, Scanline VFX, and Spin VFX.

Season 1 and 2 of Foundation are streaming now on Apple TV+.
