David Cronenberg's sci-fi/horror flick SCANNERS is getting a TV series adaptation from Dimension Films, reports Deadline.com. Alexandre Aja (THE HILLS HAVE EYES) will exec produce and is eying the director's chair for the pilot.

The original 1981 film followed a man with telepathic and telekinetic abilities who is sent out to track down others like him.

Originally Dimension acquired the rights to remake the film and hired David Goyer to write the script. But Dimension head Bob Weinstein and Aja devised a plan to make it a TV series instead. Rene Malo, Clark Peterson and Pierre David were set to produce the feature and will continue on as exec producers of the TV series should it go.
