Cineverse Drops ‘Fantasy Warrior King’ Trailer

Inspired by the legend of hero and warrior King Gesar, the Chinese animated epic fantasy comes to North American theaters next month.

Cineverse has acquired North American rights to the Chinese 3DCG animated epic fantasy Warrior King. Inspired by the ancient story of the legendary hero and warrior, King Gesar, the film is slated to hit theaters August 25, following its international theatrical debut.

King Gesar was born to a divine lineage and destined to become a great hero and ruler. As a young man, the future king grew up exiled in a realm overrun by menacing demons and monsters. When evil forces threaten his home, he embarks on a heroic journey to save his people and fulfill his destiny as a legendary leader.

The story of Gesar is considered one of Central Asia’s literary classics and was passed down in oral tradition for 1,000 years, as well as literary, poetic, and stage play versions. According to some calculations, its Tibetan iteration may be the most prominent, but it is certainly one of the longest, running to over 100 volumes and a million verses.

“Epic films are meant to be experienced on the big screen,” said Cinedigm chief content officer Yolanda Macias. “The sensory immersion that comes from watching films like this in theaters not only enhances the experience in the moment but reminds us why we love going to the theater in the first place. High-quality action and animation are what summer movies are made for. Warrior King invites fans of fantasy animation to embark on a captivating co-viewing experience showcasing the extraordinary strength, intelligence and courage of King Gesar, the qualities that define a true warrior.”
