The 2D animated drama tells the tale of a young German-Jewish artist who comes of age on the eve of the Second World War; from Good Deed Entertainment and starring Keira Knightley, the film hits theaters April 22.

Good Deed Entertainment (Loving Vincent) has just released a trailer and poster for the 2D animated feature, Charlotte. The film tells the true story of Charlotte Salomon, a young German-Jewish artist who comes of age on the eve of the Second World War and defies incredible odds to create a timeless masterpiece. The film opens in New York and Los Angeles on April 22.

The Canada-France-Belgium animated drama is directed by Eric Warin and Tahir Rana and features the voices of Oscar nominees Keira Knightley, Brenda Blethyn, and Sophie Okonedo alongside Oscar winner Jim Broadbent. Also featured are the voices of Sam Claflin, Eddie Marsan, Mark Strong, and the late Helen McCrory.

Charlotte follows the story of Charlotte Salomon, a young German-Jewish painter who dreams of becoming an artist. But the world around her is changing quickly and dangerously, limiting her options, and derailing her dream. When anti-Semitic policies inspire violent mobs, she leaves Berlin for the safety of the South of France. There she begins to paint again and finds new love. But her work is interrupted, this time by a family tragedy that reveals an even darker secret. Believing that only the extraordinary will save her, she embarks on the monumental adventure of painting her life story.

A separate French version of the film, debuting at a U.S. film festival soon, features the voice of Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard.
