New categories for the event’s 43rd edition include Hybrid Events, Workplace Culture, and Sustainability; early entry deadline is December 10; winners will be announced in May 2022.
The Telly Awards has announced the call for entries for its 43rd annual event honoring excellence in video and television across all screens. The event has added new categories in response to the challenges faced by companies and creators during these unpresented times. Many have retooled their offerings and workflows, representation is shifting across the industry, and more diverse voices are taking the lead behind the camera. The new categories include Workplace Culture, Hybrid Events and Sustainability with expanding categories reflecting new production techniques including Remote Production, Virtual Events, Animation, and D&I and Social Impact.
“Our industry has adapted in difficult times by developing and implementing new skills, new workflows, new tools, and a new sense of perspective on what is achievable in a transformed world,” commented Telly’s executive director Sabrina Dridje. “As our community continues to focus on the important work of storytelling, it has embraced a perspective that values innovation, agility, equity, and tenacious creativity.”
Founded in 1979 to honor commercials made for cable and local TV, The Telly Awards has continually refreshed its categories to honor the evolving, broad range of work being made — including branded content, social video, and animation — working with industry experts to identify categories where new platforms play an increasingly important role in the ways stories are being told. As a result, last year saw a 15% increase in entries from the previous year, with growth driven by a significant rise in remote and virtual productions. Winners included top video content producers Netflix, Microsoft, Condé Nast, HBO, Nickelodeon, BET Digital, and BBC Global News.
