animago Extends Submission Deadline to July 20

Recognizing excellence in 3D animation, visual effects, visualization and game design, the animago AWARD will be presented on Thursday, October 15 at the animago AWARD & CONFERENCE.

MUNICH/POTSDAM -- Organizers of the Munich/Potsdam-based 3D animation and VFX animago AWARD & CONFERENCE have extended the submission deadline for the 2015 competition until July 20. Participation in the international competition is free, with online registration available at www.animago.com.

The animago AWARDS will be presented on the evening of Thursday, October 15, 2015 as part of the animago AWARD & CONFERENCE running October 15 & 16 in the Metropolis Hall at the legendary Filmpark Babelsberg. Each award winner will be chosen by a high-ranking jury made up of experts active in the VFX and animation industry.

Founded in 1997, and funded by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg since 2009, the animago AWARD & CONFERENCE is an awards ceremony, professional conference and public exhibition all rolled into one. Among its core focuses are 3D animation, visual effects, visualization and game design. Since 1997, the animago AWARD has been honoring the most outstanding productions in these areas with regard to both their creativity and technical expertise.

The animago 2015 will be awarded in nine categories: Best Post Production, Best Short Film, Best Character, Best Advertising Production, Best Trailer/Opener, Best Visualization, Best Young Production (with € 3,000 prize money from DIGITAL PRODUCTION), Best Still (The winner will be decided via public voting with pre-selection of the nominees by the jury experts.) and Jury's Prize.

A twelve-member jury consisting of ten experts and two guest jurors will choose the final award winners in each category. This year’s guest jurors are Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg Managing Director Elmar Giglinger and Funding Advisor Ina Goering.

Here is a list of the jurors for the animago AWARD 2015:

  • Guenter Hagedorn, Jury Chairman: Guenter is a Hamburg-based graphic designer and freelance editor who's been on board since the very first animago AWARD in 1997. He is responsible for the management and implementation of the animago AWARD.
  • Alexander Ellendt, Executive Producer & Management Board Member, Vogelsaenger Group, Düsseldorf: Alexander has been working at Vogelsaenger since 1997. The company is an internationally active group that offers multiple award-winning custom-made solutions for communication channels, photo, film, multimedia, event and consulting.
  • Maggy Fischer, Head of Post-Production, NEVEREST, Munich: Maggy is an industry giant with over 20 years of experience in post-production, among others as co-founder of Second Unit Services, Stereolize and Ventuz. Today she is head of post-production at NEVEREST, a full- service agency that offers strategy, design and production of digital content.
  • Mirja Fuerst, Editor, DIGITAL PRODUCTION: Mirja got her start as part of an internship at a post-production studio and today she is responsible for animago online and print editing at DIGITAL PRODUCTION magazine, which also happens to be the organizer behind the animago.
  • Sinje Gebauer, Freelance VFX & CG Producer: Sinje is responsible for many renowned national and international projects, including The Little Ghost, Captain America 2, the Vampire Sisters series and Heidi. She also teaches VFX Producing at the HFF Munich.
  • Florian Gellinger, VFX Production Supervisor at RISE | Visual Effects Studios, Berlin: Florian has been active for over a decade as a visual effects designer in compositing and 3D. He has worked on several prominent films, including Roman Polanski's Oliver Twist, The Book Thief, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Iron Man 3 and Cloud Atlas.
  • Prof. Angela Kern, Digital Art Department Head, Games Academy Hochschule, Berlin: After completing her studies, Angela worked at DEFA before moving on to image processing on computers. After that, she worked for different TV broadcasters, and in 2007, she became the first professor for OnAir Design at the Mediadesign Hochschule. In 2014, she took up her current position at the GA in Berlin.
  • Michael Landgrebe, VFX Supervisor & Co-Founder of Celluloid Visual Effects, Berlin: Michael gained his first experiences in 3D computer graphics in the 1980s and went on to study at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Since then, he has worked as a freelancer for countless VFX companies and ultimately founded his own, Celluloid VFX.
  • Csaba Letay, Design/Direction/Compositing Polynoid, Berlin: After completing his studies at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, Csaba joined the Polynoid artists collective and from there co-founded a motion design and animation studio of the same name. Later, he also founded the studio and production company WOODBLOCK.
  • Thomas Zauner, Managing Director and Founder, ScanlineVFX, Munich: Thomas got his start as a business software developer before co-founding ScanlineVFX in 1989. This globally active and multiple award-winning company is well-known for its complex effects and simulation work with water, fire and smoke for films such as Iron Man 3 and The Avengers.
