4th Annual AfroAnimation Summit Returns to Burbank

The conference, running April 10-12, promotes diversity and inclusion throughout the entertainment industry, welcoming a coalition of industry speakers, studio execs, students, creatives and young professionals.

The 2024 AfroAnimation Summit (AAS 4.0), featuring diverse and underrepresented animators, gamers, and creators, returns to Burbank, California, April 10 - 12, 2023. AAS 4.0 will focus on gender representation in the industry, spotlight the gaming and V/R industries; launch a new international film ceremony celebrating diversity in animation and the arts; and bring together a large coalition of industry leaders and animation studio executives, artists, and creative talent, to help drive an increase in inclusive representation throughout the entertainment industry.

Last year’s event featured Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse co-producer Peter Ramsey, who headlined a collection of 60+ industry leaders at the summit. A similar lineup of speakers, awardees, and attendees is expected this year, along with hundreds of local high school and college students. Recruiters representing Hollywood animation studios will be on-site to connect with, interview, and hire diverse talent. Last year’s event attracted artists, creators, animators, producers, storytellers, character designers, writers, voiceover talent, VFX artists, and film/TV executives.

Event activations include Live Illustration Competition; Dolby Music Café; Immersive Gaming Experience; Internship Corner; Icon Awards Luncheon; FRWD Awards Dinner; and an Independent Short Film Competition. Event sponsors include Sony Pictures Animation; DreamWorks Animation; Nickelodeon; LAIKA Studios; and Xence Labs.
