A Bold New Look for the Annecy International Animated Film Festival

The forthcoming Cité internationale du cinéma d’animation enters a new phase with its construction work getting underway.

The Cité internationale du cinéma d’animation d’Annecy on track!

An emblematic site for the world capital of animation film

For the last 63 years, Annecy has hosted the world’s leading festival dedicated to animation film.

In June 2023, some 16,000 professionals and enthusiasts from nearly a hundred countries came to celebrate animation in all its forms.
The epitome of this history and its success, the forthcoming Cité internationale du cinéma d’animation enters a new phase with its construction work getting underway. The Cité, at the heart of the Haras d’Annecy, is backed by the City of Annecy, the Département de la Haute-Savoie, the Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and the State.

 As a result of this regional project, the animation film world capital will have a truly exceptional setting for all audiences to revel in the diversity of this art form.

An aspirational site at the heart of a unique architectural heritage in lush green surroundings

The Cité internationale du cinéma d’animation will take up residence right at the heart of the city. The Haras, comprising 2.6-hectare wooded grounds and historical buildings, will welcome the Cité and a gourmet market, to discover another part of the local heritage.

A funny historical coincidence: on the cusp of the 1880s, as Émile Reynaud was showing his first animated screenings, the Haras was hosting its first galloping horses!

A hub of culture and entertainment dedicated to the world of the animated image

The Cité internationale du cinéma d’animation’s mission is to promote animation, its diverse forms of expression and the creative industries in general, as well as rendering them accessible to all audiences throughout the year. It will be a place to be amazed, to learn, create and experiment while discovering this cinematic art’s abundance and distinct expertise.

The Cité will be home to:

•   A screening room;

•   An artists’ residency;

•    Special areas for training courses and cultural action;

•     A space for temporary exhibitions;

•     A permanent exhibition to showcase the Musée-Château d’Annecy’s animation film collections;

•      A bookstore and gift shop.

Opening: 2nd half of 2025
