Exclusively for candidates in Scotland, the 3-year fully funded fellowship is now accepting applications through November 17; in partnership with NYU, the Virtual Production Master Class begins on October 30, applications are open.

Final Pixel Academy is launching two programs to further its initiative to bring virtual production education and career development to creatives throughout Europe and the United States. Exclusively for candidates in Scotland, it has partnered with British Film Institute (BFI) and Screen Scotland to launch a first-of-its-kind, fully funded Virtual Production Fellowship training program. In addition, it has partnered with New York University Tandon School of Engineering to deliver a comprehensive Virtual Production Master Class featuring a deep dive into the Motion Capture (MoCap) and ICVFX skills and techniques needed to excel in virtual production.

Virtual Production Fellowship Program:

A three-year program developed with Nightsky Studios in Glasgow, Scotland, and Blazing Griffin introduces virtual production, key technologies, and concepts encompassing virtual production workflows. It will provide an in-depth understanding of and preparation for the critical skills required and practical know-how to develop virtual production best practices through practical hands-on and on-set experience.

The pre-fellowship kickoff begins on November 30, 2023, with the full curriculum and launch starting in December 2023. Applications are now open. Learn more and apply here; application deadline is November 17, 2023, 5 p.m. GMT.

Virtual Production Master Class for Motion Capture and ICVFX:

Led by Virtual Production Supervisor Ian Fursa (Greatest Beer Run Ever, Twenty One Pilots Shy Away, Once Upon a Disney Wish, VP-Toolkit) and award-winning creator and NYU Faculty Todd Bryant (SnapChat Partner Summit 2021 & 2020, Childish Gambino Phar0s II, Neurospeculative Afrofeminism, Giant) the blended asynchronous and on-set training begins on October 30, 2023 and consists of the following:

  • October 30: 2-hour Online/Live Q&A Kickoff with Instructors
  • Beginning November 3: 4 hours On-Demand / Asynchronous Training
  • November 11–12: Two 8-hour days on-set/in-person training at NYU Tandon @ The Yard

The Master Class training will introduce participants to motion-capture topics and virtual production onboarding, including theory and application, and culminate in integrating both pipelines for a micro-simulated or recorded virtual production shoot with motion-capture.

The training is open to professionals with some level of industry experience. It introduces motion-capture concepts, principles, and applications as deployed in virtual production environments for animation, films, advertising, and games.
