Pokemon Pumps Up European Deals

Pokemon has caught new deals with several eastern European countries and renewals from around the rest of the continent. New locations of Pokemon infestation include Polsat in Poland, RTL-Klub in Hungary, Nova in Czech Republic, ETV in South Africa and Fox Kids Scandinavia Satelite service. The countries that renewed the second seasons 52-episodes were TV2 in Denmark, TV2 in Norway, TV4 in Sweden, Star Channel in Greece and RTL in Belgium.

First Annual Amazing Kids! Animation Contest

The First Annual Amazing Kids! Animation Contest will give young animators a chance to be mentored by professional animators from DreamWorks Animation. The contest is part of a partnership between Amazing Kids!, a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring excellence in children, and DreamWorks Animation. The event is hosted on the Amazing Kids! Web site and is open for kids 6-17 years old. As part of the contest, DreamWorks is providing original content for the Amazing Kids! Web site, including animation lessons for kids taught by DreamWorks animators.

Fox Kids Europe Acquires Digimon

Fox Kids Europe has acquired the exclusive U.K. and French rights to DIGIMON: DIGITAL MONSTERS from Toei Animation of Japan. The POKEMON-like series will hit Fox Kids Europe on April 1 and premiere on Britain's ITV network. September will see the debut of the show in France on TF1 and Fox Kids France.

An Extremely Goofy Movie Stumbles Into Stores

On February 29, 2000, Disney will debut its new direct-to-video feature

entitled AN EXTREMELY GOOFY MOVIE. The new Goofy flick follows Goofy and

his son Max as they both go off to college. Goofy brings some old-fashioned

ideas along that embarrass young Max. But all bets are off as both father

and son compete in the "College X Games," an extreme sports competition.

The VHS tape will be priced at US$24.99 and the DVD will be $29.99. An

added bonus is the short entitled KIDS' GOOFIEST JOKES, a collection of

Fox Kids Fires Up In Italy

In the spring, Fox Kids Europe will launch a local TV affiliate in Italy

and initiate a fully localized Web site to coincide. The new channel will

be distributed by cable and direct satellite to about 400,000 subscribers

via the Stream pay television system. The channel will broadcast entirely

in Italian 15 hours a day with such well-known shows as X-MEN, MIGHTY

MORPHAN POWER RANGERS and INSPECTOR GADGET. The scheduled launch date for

the new net will be April 1, 2000. Following the Italian launch, Fox Kids

Scandinavia Surrenders To Pokemania

Three new Scandinavian markets surrendered their airwaves to Pokemania.

Worldwide sensation POKEMON was recently sold to TV4 in Sweden, TV2 in

Denmark and TV2 in Norway. The show will hit the new territories in January

and February 2000. Lacey Entertainment, the international distributors of

the series, also announced the sale of the Pikachu-vehicle to ATV in Turkey

and Noga Communications' Children's Channel in Israel. In Europe, POKEMON

Recently, Europe has gotten a good old dose of American capitalism,

Japanese style. POKEMON has infested the European television market. The

children's mega-hit first debuted in the UK on Sky 1 in April and quickly

became the channel's #1 kids show. In October, the ITV Network and GMTV

secured UK terrestrial broadcast rights to the show. A month prior to the

Kids WB! announces fall lineup

The Kids' WB! has announced two new shows for their 1999-2000 fall lineup. The first is ON THE ROPES, a live-action high school wrestling series, from the producing/directing team of Mike Tollin and Brian Robbins (KENAN & KEL, ALL THAT, VARSITY BLUES). The second freshman show, DETENTION, is an animated entry from Warner Bros. Television Animation, a comedy about eight mismatched preteens who regularly end up in afterschool detention.

Fox Kids ups Poindexter to VP, Head of Programming

Fox Kids Network has promoted Roland Poindexter to Vice President, Head of Programming. In the newly created position, Poindexter will oversee day-to-day management and administration of all programming and development for Fox Kids. He replaces Carol Monroe, Senior VP, Programming and Development, who left the company to pursue new opportunities. "Roland is a dynamic, creative executive who has solid relationships within the creative community and a wealth of experience developing children's entertainment," said Maureen Smith, General Manager of Fox Kids Network.
